VizTurf Inc. ("VizTurf," "we," "us") operates the VizTurf mobile application and website (vizturf.com). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Name and display name
  • Password (stored as a salted hash, never in plaintext)
  • Job title and user type (e.g., superintendent, spray tech)

Location Data

We collect your approximate location (latitude and longitude) to power regional features like disease radar, spray window calculations, and the regional activity feed. Location is only collected when you grant permission and can be revoked at any time in your device settings.

Course and Operational Data

If you link to a golf course or sports venue, we store:

  • Chemical application logs (product, rate, area, weather conditions at time of application)
  • Disease observations (type, severity, location, photos)
  • Condition measurements (green speed, soil moisture, etc.)
  • Daily plans and task records

User-Generated Content

Showcase posts, photos, videos, comments, and profile information you choose to share.

Device and Usage Data

We collect device type, operating system, app version, and general usage patterns to improve the service. We do not track individual screen views or keystrokes.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Core service delivery: Weather forecasts, spray window calculations, disease radar, daily planning
  • Regional features: Anonymized disease reports and activity feeds within your geographic area
  • Benchmarking: Anonymized, aggregated comparisons across courses (opt-in only)
  • Notifications: Spray window alerts, disease pressure warnings, emergency broadcasts
  • Service improvement: Identifying bugs, improving features, understanding usage patterns
  • Compliance: Helping you maintain application records for state inspections

3. Third-Party Services

We share data with these providers only as necessary to operate the service:

  • Stripe — Payment processing. We never store your credit card number. Stripe is PCI Level 1 certified.
  • Tomorrow.io — Weather data. We send your course's coordinates to retrieve forecasts. No personal information is shared.
  • Expo Push Notifications — Delivers push notifications to your device. Receives only a device token, not personal data.
  • DigitalOcean — Cloud hosting and managed databases. All data stored in US-based data centers.
  • Amazon S3 / DigitalOcean Spaces — Photo and media storage.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

4. Data Sharing and Anonymization

Regional features (disease radar, activity feed, benchmarking) use anonymized data. When your disease observation appears on the radar, it shows as "a course within X miles" — never your name, course name, or exact location. Other users cannot trace anonymized data back to you.

Showcase posts and profile information you set to "public" are visible to other VizTurf users. You can set your profile to private at any time in Settings.

5. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access and export: You can export your log data at any time (Pro+ feature, or by request for other tiers).
  • Correction: Edit your profile and log entries directly in the app.
  • Deletion: Delete your account in Settings. We will remove your personal data within 30 days. Anonymized data that has already been aggregated into regional statistics is not reversible.
  • Opt-out: You can disable location sharing, push notifications, and public profile visibility independently.
  • Data portability: Request a full copy of your data by emailing [email protected].

6. Data Security

All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest. Passwords are salted and hashed using industry-standard algorithms. Our infrastructure is hosted on DigitalOcean with managed databases and automated backups. We conduct regular security reviews of our codebase and dependencies.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Chemical application logs are retained for 7 years by default to support regulatory compliance, unless you request earlier deletion. After account deletion, personal data is purged within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

VizTurf is designed for professional use and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

9. California Residents (CCPA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, email [email protected].

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notification at least 30 days before taking effect.
